Avoid diving in without doing a bit of research! Do Not just join the first / largest instance you see suggested (Most likely mastodon.social, or mas.to, ...) or another of the huge instances. They pose a problem to the decentralised nature of the Fediverse. You can read up about this on Fedi.Tips and a thread with more info.
